Housing and homelessness

SHELTER

Shelter offer legal advice on housing problems, as well as advice about homelessness, abuse or harm in relation to where you live and an emergency helpline.

Sheffield City Council’s Housing Department

SCC offer advice on everything from council housing to energy efficiency.

Young Women’s Housing Project

The YWHP offers specialist support for young women and girls affected by abuse.

NOMAD

Nomad helps people to transition out of homelessness and give ongoing support to have people develop skills to avoid homelessness.

Haven

Haven supports children affected by domestic abuse. They provide children and young people with support and care through the provision of services and education.

Financial support

Household Support Fund

Sheffield City Council offers financial help with food, bills and clothing, that you can apply for at the SCC website.

You can apply for the fund once every three months.

Food banks

If you find that you’re unable to afford food this month, there are many food banks across the city who can offer packages for food for free.

Immigration, refugees and asylum seekers

Our drop in

We run a drop-in service for anyone facing issues with immigration at the City of Sanctuary Multi-Agency drop in, fortnightly on Wednesdays.

1pm to 4pm (doors close at 3:30pm). No appointment needed.

ASSIST Sheffield

ASSIST Sheffield works with people who are seeking sanctuary and who have been refused asylum, providing accommodation, information and other support.

South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice

South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice (SYRLJ) is a grassroots legal charity offering free immigration advice and representation to those seeking sanctuary in South Yorkshire.

Students and education

Sheffield Hallam University

Sheffield Hallam offer 24/7 support through their chat bot, Hallam Help. You can ask for assistance with anything related to university life.

University of Sheffield

The University of Sheffield provides a range of in-house support for students, ranging from support with fees and funding to mental health.
